Overview
Since its acclaimed production “Rückblick”, the work of the AMICI Dance Theatre Company has consistently drawn upon themes of maternal grief, loss, and endurance. AMICI's 2007 production “Elegy” tells the stories of six mothers who have lost their children.
Why has the mother become such a central motif?
"It is deeply influenced by my own mother's suffering."
With these words, Artistic Director Wolfgang Stange begins to reveal a profoundly personal story.
His memories of his mother form the foundation of his artistic vision, and lead directly to the creation of AMICI itself ― an integrated company bringing together performers with and without disabilities. Stange also reflects on his unique directing methods, describing his work with disabled performers and offering insight into AMICI's distinctive creative process.
AMICI brings together a wide range of personalities and experiences to create new forms of artistic expression. Like a mother, the company embraces its members; and the theatre space, in turn, embraces AMICI itself.
“Wolf's Elegy” is a documentary built around an extensive interview with Wolfgang Stange. Through backstage moments, rehearsals, and performances, the film gradually uncovers the essence of both the artist and the company, revealing the creative spirit that lies at the heart of AMICI.
